Alaska — Flat Top

The Design
The Alaska state capitol building design is a flat-topped Art Deco block. When seen from above, it is actually U-shaped, with the front being the bottom of the U.

Only part of the front facade is visible from behind the taller building in front of the capitol. Since it was built as a territorial capitol, it is not on a large site like our other state capitols are.

Virginia — Low Gable Roof

The Design
The Virginia state capitol building design is Neoclassical with a low gable roof on the older, center section and flat roofs on the wings. Though there is an interior dome, there is no exterior dome or cupola. There is a skylight over the interior dome, and another large skylight over each wing.
